Database Administrator

Status: Regular Full Time
Location:Toronto, ON

The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the stability and integrity of Primus Canada’s databases (Oracle, Informix, My SQL and MS SQL) by providing critical support for the database production environment. Primarily, this position monitors the day to day operations of the relational database business systems, troubleshoots production database and user problems, schedules & monitors nightly and weekend processes and ensures completion of database back up at scheduled times. In addition, this position also schedules and monitor month end processes (aging, purge/archive) and generates various ad hoc database reports as per requirements.


Responsibilities:
Maintain and support Oracle, Informix, MySQL and MS SQL databases.
- Monitor and check all logs on MS SQL server machine(s).
- Monitor and check all logs on Oracle, MySQL and Informix server machine(s).
- Monitor database performance including access time. Perform validation checks, change file sizes etc. to ensure
acceptable performance. - Check SQL Server error log.
- Assist with trouble shoot production application issues for Great Plains etc.
Monitor SQL database abuse and take appropriate action.
Monitor & check backup status, ensure size stored on tape is acceptable & assess when new tape sets are required.
Archive PCS history and store it on an offline database.
Schedule and monitor month end process (aging, purge/archive).
Monitor the scheduling and execution of nightly and weekend processes to ensure stability of databases.
Maintain application specific backup and recovery files
Produce ad hoc queries and reports as per requirements.
Consult with systems development group on the impact of new applications on the databases.
Maintain accurate and up to date database system documentation.

What We’re Looking for In You:
3-5 years of Database Maintenance and Trouble shooting experience in medium sized client server environment running MS SQL 2008 or higher (vs4.21) as well as Oracle 10g.
Telecommunications background a definite asset.
Minimum Education: Post Secondary College education (Certificate/Diploma) in Computer Science, IT or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Post Secondary University education (Bachelors) in Computer Science, IT or equivalent.
Oracle/MS SQL DBA Certification, an asset.
  Advanced knowledge of MS SQL administrative tools and utilities
Advanced knowledge of Data Transformation Services and MS Powershell
Advanced knowledge of MS SQL replication and failover.
Advanced knowledge of Oracle administrative tools and utilities.
Advanced knowledge Transactional SQL and database servers.
Knowledge of OLAP.

Managed Services Technician

Status: Regular Full Time
Location:Edmonton, AB, Ottawa, ON and Toronto, ON

The Managed Services Technician is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and maintenance of all devices under the responsibility of the Managed Services and Data Center Operations teams in a 24x7 service environment. This position is responsible for watching the monitors of Managed server and network devices and responding to alerts. It also includes patching servers and upgrading network device operating systems, monitoring event logs, checking backup reports for servers and network devices as well as making firewall changes. This role includes first level Managed Services response and troubleshooting for customer requests and issues as reported through tickets and a phone queue. In addition, the technician is responsible for escorting collocation clients visiting the data centre to work on their equipment and regular walk-arounds of the facility to ensure that everything is functioning properly. Reporting directly to the Manager, Data Center Operations, this role provides services for MSA and MNS and IDC.


Responsibilities:
Provide a professional, prompt first level systems and network administration support to Primus customers via ticket system, phone queues and on site.
Support issues vary between assisting customers with minor software/hardware technical problems to providing initial research and issue documentation for Senior Server and Network Administrators.
Coordinate all new Primus or client device installations in Data Center via Customer Implementation Team or Network or Managed Systems Administration Teams.
Audits including (but not limited to): event log reports, client space electrical consumption, site and systems security, server and network device backups.
Use Monitoring software to maintain Primus and colocation client systems.
Service and performance monitoring and response where necessary and applicable (client network, server, hosting applications)
Assist with inventory management and auditing of managed/rental devices as well as Data Center stock (firewalls, routers, server components, ethernet and power cables, KVM gear, etc.)
Maintain high level of customer satisfaction and encourage usage of Managed Services
Refer appropriate calls and escalate customer inquiries to Senior Systems and Network Admins or to other departments as required to ensure problem resolution in a timely manner.
Make follow up calls to customers on outstanding issues - ensure satisfaction and confirm problem resolution.
Update customer’s account in the system with the problem reported, resolution and timelines.
Creation and maintenance of policies, procedures and technical documentation libraries.
Follow Change Management Procedures
Disaster recovery management (backup checks, ERD updates, documentation updates, TFTP backups, weekly generator testing etc.)
OS/Application/Network Device security monitoring and management
Perform maintenance during off-hours scheduled maintenance windows (OS/application patching, hardware upgrades, migrations, etc.)
Emergency response to alarms within the data center facility
Performing system backups and tape swaps including off site tape backup management
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform daily and weekly server room clean up.
Maintain server room infrastructure (cabinets, shelving, etc).
Assigning IP space and DNS setup for collocation clients.
Emergency on-call and shift work including midnights, weekends and on-call.
Use Monitoring software to maintain Primus and colocation client systems.
Maintain security integrity at Primus based on security policies.
Ensure all health and safety guidelines are enforced by both internal and external visitors to the Data Centre
Support of and maintaining Primus’ SAS70/CICA5970/PCI compliance through established processes as required

What We’re Looking for In You:
1-2 years of trouble shooting experience in small to medium sized client-server and network environment
Minimum Education: Post-Secondary College education (Certificate/Diploma) in Computer Science, IT or equivalent
Certifications: Minimum 1 entry level certificate from an industry leading vendor (e.g. Microsoft MCP, Cisco CCENT, VMWare VCP, etc)
Recent experience in consistently meeting the demands of an aggressive Service Level Agreement as a systems administrator
Recent experience providing exceptional customer service to external clients
  Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to follow up and troubleshoot issues
Strong attention to detail and excellent multi-tasking abilities
Demonstrated problem solving abilities
Technical Skills:
Basic to Intermediate knowledge of MS Windows Server installation, setup/configuration and administration (2008, 2003, 2000, NT);Networking technologies, including firewalls, switches, routers, load balancing, VPN
Basic knowledge of Active Directory maintenance, Microsoft Exchange maintenance, IIS/Apache maintenance, TCP/IP
Experience assembling, troubleshooting, and replacing server hardware and RAID storage components
Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco network hardware including PIX/ASA firewalls, switches, routers, load-balancers. Experience with other vendor network technology is an asset
Basic knowledge of Linux installation, setup and maintenance, ColdFusion Administration, MSSQL/MySQL Database administration is an asset

The System Analyst, in conjunction with System Architect is responsible for engineering the underlying service platform and service infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to applications and enhanced services for the Internet and the Voice Services platforms. Utilizing leading edge technology, scalability, security and sustainability will be the focuses of the System Analyst. Supporting new and existing products through interaction with both Operations and Product organizations will be key components of the role.


Responsibilities:
Building new services based on identified requirements.
Further develop and extend current platform and service offerings
Document all current and new services offerings for hand-off to System Administrators.
Researching new solutions and new technologies to provide solutions and recommendations for the Primus systems.

Edge Services, Network Analyst

Status: Regular Full Time
Location:Toronto, ON

The Edge Services, Network Analyst is responsible for researching, planning and co-coordinating Edge network upgrades, enhancements, improvements and/or newly required service deployments and providing level4 operational support. This position plans and analyses Edge network upgrades as well as new deployments, identifies network change control factors, participates in testing the changes & compiles test data for service deployments, prepares detailed documentation and network diagrams and issues work orders (to Network Operations or other relevant departments) to deploy new services (i.e. VOIP, DSL, Fibre deployment etc.) in the operational network.


Responsibilities:
Network topology, facilities, network hardware, IOS (Internal Operating System for routers) considerations and IP planning.
Provide level 4 operational support for Edge Network and Primus local service issues.
Plan, identify and analyze costing considerations of upgrades as well as new deployments.
Identify network change control factors when planning a network change. Participate in testing of the required changes, track change control factors and compile test data for service deployments.
In a test lab environment, research new access devices and services and deploy requirements in the test lab.
Prepare detailed documentation and Network diagrams on:
• Hardware specifications
• Software specifications
• Backplane
• Costing
• Circuits
• Configurations
• Design/architecture/infrastructure
• Protocol interaction
Prepare documentation on Edge network plans (upgrades/new deployments) for distribution purposes to help operational teams with their training requirements and understanding network upgrades and/or new deployments.
Issue work orders to operational teams (SPE, SPO, BTS, Provisioning teams, Field Services etc.) for deployment of services. Ensure that network operations team fully understands the requirements and benefits of the new deployments or enhancements prior to implementation.
Co-ordinate the flow of work orders & sequence of steps initiated by the work orders to ensure completion of action items outlined.

What We’re Looking for In You:
5-7 years of experience in a Telecommunications environment.
Post Secondary education in Networking or equivalent, CCIE (Routing & Switching )
Excellent hands-on experience in IP backbones and IP services.
Telecommunications background required with an In-depth knowledge of MPLS, IP, ATM, SONET, DSL and VoIP.

The Long Distance Purchasing Analyst is responsible for daily and aggressive negotiations with our suppliers for the utmost in competitive rates and quality, to contribute to the overall optimization, efficiency and quality of the long distance network and success to the various sales channels.


Responsibilities:
Provide the direction for optimum sourcing of long distance toll services
Select products, find suppliers and negotiate prices
Work alongside other departments in the organization to understand routing requirements, particularly quality metrics and rates to be used for procurement purposes
Responsible for cost analysis, pricing support, and budgeting
Involved in routing decisions, contract management and bi-lateral negotiations

Data Centre Facility Technician

Status: Regular Full Time
Location:Ottawa and Toronto, ON
Hours: Full Time

The Data Centre Facility Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, trouble shooting and basic maintenance of HVAC equipment and electrical systems located within our Internet Data Centers located across Canada.


Responsibilities:
Quick and effective troubleshooting to diagnose mechanical and /or electrical systems failures and working with contractors to quickly resolve or mitigate interruption in services.
Perform basic preventative mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
Systematically troubleshoot various facilities systems.
Complete maintenance of related electrical drawing documentation and projects.
Works directly with contractors until assignments are satisfactorily completed.
Liaise with Customer Implementation Specialist team for server collocation setups.
Liaise with Network Administrators and Managed system administration for all required internal Primus installs and on-going support.
Perform weekly generator testing./td>
Co-ordinate the flow of work orders & sequence of steps initiated by the work orders to ensure completion of action items outlined
Coordinate all new device installations in server room.
Maintain adequate supply levels for Ethernet patch cables, power cables, KVM gear, etc.
Perform daily and weekly server room clean up.
Keep our internal WIKI documentation up to date as processes and systems change and improve.
Keep network diagrams for collocation and server room , physical layout, electrical and mechanical schematics up to date.
Perform weekly power system audits.
Perform emergency cabling and patch cables.
Assigning IP space and DNS setup for collocation clients.
Perform emergency reboots on client collocation systems.
Maintain data center security.
Use IP Monitor software to maintain Primus and collocation client systems.
Performing Primus Canada and collocation client system backups and tape swaps.
Maintain security integrity at Primus based on security policies.
Ensure all health and safety guidelines are enforced by both internal and external visitors to the Data Centre.

Qualifications:
1-3 years of ISP experience.
Knowledge of Internet networking and associated hardware.
Knowledge of Unix system and IP network
Working knowledge of pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, facilities HVAC systems is necessary.
Working knowledge of UPS systems and associated switch gear.
Working knowledge of standby generator systems and associated switchgear.
Working knowledge of sprinkler systems/ fire alarms systems testing, building management systems).
Experience operating and controlling large, complex electrical and mechanical systems.
Must posses excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
Comprehension of common predictive and preventative maintenance techniques.
Proven discretionary judgment with ability to resolve both routine and non routine issues.
Attention to detail with an ability to follow through on project objectives.
Proven communication skills and exceptional service attitude.
Ability to work in a team based environment with other facilities and technology professionals.
Demonstrated ability to handle a multi-tasking environment.
General knowledge of electric systems and components.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Working knowledge of DVM.s and other associated electrical/mechanical measurement tools.
Experience working with hand tools.
Ability to read and understand mechanical/electrical blueprints and single line diagrams.
Customer care experience, an asset.
Shifts include emergency on-call and shift work including midnights, weekends and on-call.
Project management experience (PMP), ITIL certification, mechanical/electrical service experience, Sigma6/Prince2, building control systems, access control systems, CAD, Drafting experience are all considered valuable assets for this role.
Post Secondary education in Networking and/or equivalent.
Graduation from a trade school or apprenticeship in a mechanical/electrical trade or equivalent experience.
Basic understanding of IP networking.
Good understanding of Electrical and/or Mechanical systems.
Good client and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work unsupervised.

Network Analyst – Core Services

Status: Regular Full Time

The Network Analyst, Core Services is responsible for researching, designing , planning and co-ordinating network upgrades, enhancements, improvements and/or newly required service deployments and providing training and support to level3 operational support teams. This position plans, analyses and optimizes the network, identifies network change control factors, participates in testing the changes & compiles test data for service deployments, prepares detailed documentation and network diagrams and issues work orders to the respective departments within Primus.


Responsibilities:
Architect & Develop next generation IP based network services.
Architect & Develop next generation Data Center Network Services
Develop & Maintain MPLS Traffic Engineering policies.
Develop & Maintain Engineering Policies for Network QoS for Primus Services.
Develop & Maintain Network Engineering Standards & necessary engineering guidelines for Operational support & Provisioning Teams.
Develop Network Testing & Network Migration Plans for new deployments.
Proactively Identify & develop plans to mitigate risks within the network.
Provide training & engineering support to 3rd level operational support teams.
Plan, identify and analyze costing considerations of upgrades as well as new network deployments.
Identify network change control factors when planning a network change. Participate in testing of the required changes, track change control factors and compile test data for service deployments.
In a test lab environment, research new network services and deploy requirements in the test lab.
Develop Scripts to automate software upgrades, password changes, provisioning, troubleshooting and collect network data.
Prepare detailed documentation and Network diagrams on:
Hardware specifications
Software specifications
Backplane
Costing
Circuits
Configurations
Design/architecture/infrastructure
Protocol interaction
Prepare documentation on network plans (upgrades/new deployments) for distribution purposes to help operational teams with their training requirements and understanding network upgrades and/or new deployments.
Issue work orders to operational teams (Network/Service Platforms, NOCC, Field Services etc.) for deployment of services. Ensure that network operations team fully understands the requirements and benefits of the new deployments or enhancements prior to implementation.
Co-ordinate the flow of work orders & sequence of steps initiated by the work orders to ensure completion of action items outlined.
Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Qualifications:
5 years of Network Engineering, Planning and Designing experience in a Telecom environment.
Excellent hands-on experience in IP backbones and IP services.
• Telecommunications background required with an In-depth knowledge of MPLS, IPv6, Cloud Computing, DR Solutions, VoIP and Broadband Services
3 years hands-on experience with MPLS.
4 years hands-on experience with BGP (national ISP experience preferred).
3 years experience on writing scripts for automation.
3 years experience with IP test gear (IXIA).
Thorough knowledge of OSPF & IS-IS routing protocols.
Excellent hands-on experience on various vendor Routers and Switches including Cisco ASR9K, Nexus7K,5K, 6500
Minimum Education: Post Secondary education in Networking or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Post Secondary University education in Networking or equivalent.
CCIE, CCNP, JNCIS, CISSP, PMP is a definite asset.
Working knowledge of . Windows, MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook.
Excellent hands-on experience in IP backbones and IP services.
Thorough knowledge of IGP routing protocols.
Thorough knowledge of QoS Policies & Implementation.
Thorough knowledge of L2/L3 Multilayer Ethernet Switching environments & Associated Protocols.

Strong interpersonal & communication skills for effective inter departmental interaction.
